🏠The #BooklessBookclub is back... Join us to ta 🏠The #BooklessBookclub is back... Join us to talk about: #home, #homelessness and the global refugee crisis.

The Bookless Bookclub will take place on Zoom and will be facilitated by experienced community workers, Francine Blaché-Breen and Annette Patton, who have previously led Bookless Bookclubs about gender inequality in partnership with Think Equality Donegal in 2022 and the #blacklivesmatter movement in 2021.

Using music, visual art and short film, this Club creates a safe and stimulating space for learning and discussion. With the #MICA crisis in Donegal, the national housing crisis, and a global refugee crisis, this is an important topic to discuss together at this time.

To join, register today at Eventbrite via changemakers.ie. Link in the comments below. We ask that you sign up to all four workshops which take place on Wednesday evenings (see dates on image), 7pm to 9pm. Be sure to share with any friends who might be interested, even if they aren't living in Donegal currently.

🍌Happy Friday. #Fairtrade Fortnight is approach 🍌Happy Friday. #Fairtrade Fortnight is approaching from 27 February to 12 March.

We are in touch with a number of towns and villages and schools to make plans to raise awareness of Fairtrade.

We are seeking coffee-loving #volunteers to join Committees in Buncrana, Ballyliffin and Inishowen to help with a bid to make these towns and villages Fairtrade Zones.

Upon a successful bid process, these places will join Dunfanaghy, Carndonagh, Donegal Town and Moville/Greencastle on the list of towns with Fairtrade status in Donegal.

Join us in spreading a simple message.. Making the small switch to Fairtrade supports producers in protecting the future of some of our most-loved food and the planet.

Email changemakers@inishowen.ie if you'd like to get involved!

🎼As we approach Imbolc and the first national h 🎼As we approach Imbolc and the first national holiday to recognise Brigid, we are pleased to recommend an upcoming musical performance by Kate O'Callaghan Project Worker at ChangeMakers Donegal on Monday 6 February 2023.

Small Behaviours is a song cycle inspired by Kate O’Callaghan’s great-grand aunt and her involvement in the 1916 Rising and War of Independence.

Working with creative facilitator, Seamus Devenny, and the Donegal Camerata String Quintet directed by Victor Yelamo, this has been a wonderful opportunity for Kate O’Callaghan to engage in a process that has been both personal and commemorative.

The work is very much a reflection on the seemingly ‘small behaviours’ of ordinary women, which ultimately affected far-reaching social change over time.

When? Monday 6 February 2023 at 7pm (bank holiday)

♻️ 🎄 Different ways to compost, Christmas l ♻️ 🎄 Different ways to compost, Christmas leftover recipes and the potential to reduce food and nutrient waste in our homes this Christmas were all explored in one of our workshops earlier this week in The Exchange Inishowen community centre in Buncrana. Zero waste is a global priority which begins at a community level and more people are into composting than you would think! 'I heard worms don't like the coffee grinds', said one participant.

We were joined by local people and members of the Buncrana Tidy Towns Initiative. Thanks to facilitators Joanne Fullerton and Gráinne O'Neill for a fun, warm, informative learning session which allowed for connection, conversation and inspiration in the week of #WorldSoilDay. Watch out for more #zerowaste conversations in 2023. If you would like us to travel to your location, get in touch at changemakers@inishowen.ie.

🥕 Thanks also to Donegal County Council for providing neat looking Brown Bin Starter Kits, we still have a few leftover if anyone based in Buncrana would like to collect one.

5 REASONS WHY #SOILS4NUTRITION ARE IMPORTANT

•95% of the food we eat comes from soil;
•About 1/3 of our soils are already degraded;
•Over the last 70 years, the level of vitamins and nutrients in food has drastically decreased;
•Over 2 billion people are affected by hidden hunger or micronutrient deficiency;
•Nearly 50% of our household waste could be composted to nurture our soil.

#WorldSoilDay is next Monday and we are hosting So #WorldSoilDay is next Monday and we are hosting Soil and Soul: the only difference is U & I at Central Library Letterkenny. All welcome.

Did you know?

•More than two-thirds of the world's population lacks one or more essential minerals.
•Hidden hunger affects over 2 billion people worldwide and about two-thirds of the world's population is at risk of deficiency in one or more essential mineral elements.

These are some examples as to why we need to take talk of soil seriously. Plus, they offer an example of the importance of connecting with the wider world around us, which is what ChangeMakers Donegal is all about.

❓What can you do? Come and find out more at Central Library Letterkenny next Monday 5 December 2022, there you’ll meet change makers Joanne Butler of @OURganic Gardens and Grainne O’Neill of @SioltaCroi in Monaghan.

❓What makes a house a home is a question we put ❓What makes a house a home is a question we put to some Donegal people in Greencastle this week ahead of this evening’s Inishowen Family Action Network and Inishowen Development Partnership #micaactionweek Information event in Buncrana.

‘Family, Security, Food and Music’ were words that came to the fore…

‘Decay, breakdown, never ending cycle of jobs’ are other words that were shared…

Tonight, at the Gateway Hotel in Buncrana, an exhibition of postcards from the workshop is on display alongside a table setting out what ChangeMakers Donegal is all about which is to encourage action around local and global justice issues.

A big thank you to those who took part in the workshop and to our own, Francine Blache-Breen, Eve Li and Kate O’Callaghan for your dedication and commitment to creating safe spaces for people to connect with one another in the community.
