Bookless BookClub February Edition

In partnership with Think Equality Donegal, ChangeMakers will be running another Bookless Book Club (BBC).

Following its success, our BBC 2022 will explore gender inequality- its local and global dimensions and how it impacts us, our community, and our world.

Art is a powerful medium to understand the world around us. Our Bookless Book Club (BBC) is an approach we piloted in 2021 to explore racial inequality and the Black Lives Matter movement using film, art, poetry, podcasts and other media.

The Think Equality Donegal Project is an initiative working to eliminate prejudice, discrimination, and racism across the county of Donegal. Their aim is to promote Human Rights and positive institutional change, with the goal of full and meaningful inclusion of Black Minority Ethnic Communities, including Traveller and Roma Communities, across rural Donegal.

The Bookless Book Club consists of 4 evening sessions delivered online from Thursday February 17th & 24th and Thursday March 3rd & 10th @ 7pm

The club will be limited to 15 part for more informationcipants. Participants must commit to attending all four sessions and Eventbrite registration is required.

SEEDS OF CHANGE – GRANT SCHEME REOPENED JANUARY 2022

ChangeMakers has reopened its small grants of up to €650 to community and voluntary groups who wish to support the objectives of ChangeMakers by offering a Development Education activity or project around one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The aim of the ‘Seeds of Change’ Grant Scheme is to enable Donegal Community Activist and Voluntary Groups to raise awareness and action around the identified global development issues.
Community groups can make applications under three categories :
• Category I- Social Justice
• Category II- Economic Justice
• and Category III- Environmental Justice
We encourage projects that address multiple categories acknowledging the reality of many of the local and global justice issues we are trying to address in our community. Such applications should identify the ‘main category’ under which their project falls.

United Nations International Day of Peace 21st September 2013

INTERNATIONAL-DAY-OF-PEACE-image for blogThis coming Saturday – the 21st September is the United Nations International Day of Peace and this year’s chosen theme is ‘Education for Peace’.  The 2013 Peace Day theme highlights education as an important path toward a more peaceful world as well as the crucial need for educational programming specific to the subject of peace.  Achieving gains in education will have an impact on all the Millennium Development Goals as well, from lower child and maternal mortality, to better health, higher income and more environmentally-friendly societies.  250 Million children cannot read, write or count well, even those with at least 4 years in school. Children have a fundamental right to free primary schooling of good quality.

When we put education first, we can reduce poverty and hunger, end wasted potential – and look forward to stringer and better societies for all

Celebrate Africa Day – 25th May 2013

Africa Day, designated by the African Union as an annual celebration of the continent’s unity, falls on 25th May each year. Celebrations to mark the day occur across the globe: in some African states, it is a designated national holiday, while in diverse cities – such as New York, London and Washington – academic gatherings and cultural showcases mark the day.
Africa Day 2013 is an especially important celebration: it marks the 50th anniversary of Africa Day and African unity. This will offer an important opportunity to reflect on the progress and transformation that has taken place across the African continent, as well as the issues that continue to hinder development, such as security, hunger and inequality.
