Course Aim
To enhance your existing facilitation skills and prepare you to design and deliver Development Education courses and workshops.
Course Dates and Location. October 14 and 15, October 28 and December 9. The two days (14 & 15 October) will probably be at Gartan Outdoor Education Centre with an overnight stay, and the other two days will be at venue in either Letterkenny or Donegal Town (depending on where the majority of participants are coming from).
The Course Content
- The initial two-day training will involve learning about the issues and discovering participative and creative approaches and methodologies for this work, which is based on the practice of development education. This training focuses on global human development issues and links them to issues affecting people (especially the more disadvantaged) in Ireland. The aim is to make global issues relevant to local people. Issues/topics that will be explored include ‘what is development? looking at global crises, the global food production system, the financial crisis, debt and the IMF, how to link local and global issues and taking action for change.
- The one day on planning and evaluating will help prepare you for the implementation phase covering effective planning and evaluation and where to go for resources.
- Implementation phase. Participants will carry out 3-4 development education sessions with groups in their community setting.
- The one day of peer learning will involve participants sharing experiences and collectively drawing out the lessons from the implementation phase. There will also be an opportunity to look at challenges that arise in this work and what next in terms of continuing your development education work into the future
