Disappear Here Film Club 2: Losing Alaska
ChangeMakers, Disappear Here Film Festival and Concern Worldwide are pleased to invite you to the second Disappear Here Film Club screening and post-film talk at the Market House, Clonmany, this Friday 1 July 2022 at 7:30pm.
Our second film is the powerful documentary ‘Losing Alaska’ from Director Tom Burke.
The 375 residents of Newtok, Alaska watch their homes disappear into rolling seas as winter storms steal their coastline and melting permafrost erodes the edges of their town. Tom Burke’s elegiac study follows the community as they struggle to maintain their traditional Yup’ik culture, a subsistence lifestyle of hunting and fishing, and build a new town on safer, higher ground.
Post film panel discussion
Our post screening discussion will include Donegal Green Party Chairman Michael White, Rosemary Mc Closkey, Vice Chair of Inishowen Rivers Trust and Duncan Stewart, Environmentalist, Activist and Architect, talking about how these issues are of local as well as global concern.

Entry to the film and post-screening discussion costs €7.50 and all proceeds go to the newly established ‘Donegal Documentary Fund’, to help raise awareness of sociopolitical and environmental issues in the county.

In June 2022, a group of under 40 Change Makers joined Aengus Kennedy of Nature North West and Duncan Stewart, environmental activist, architect and creator of RTE’s Eco Eye at Glenveagh National Park for a walk and talk event in partnership with the Education Team at Glenveagh. The Donegal change makers who attended Aengus Kennedy’s workshop came up with these recommended actions for protecting biodiversity.

Biodiversity and Green Energy Solutions
ChangeMakers in partnership with Glenveagh National Park is pleased to present: Duncan Stewart & Aengus Kennedy of Nature North West in conversation about biodiversity and green energy.
2pm: Meet at 2pm at the car-park.
We will need to leave by 2:05pm to stay on schedule. If you are late or lost, text me at 086 – 1913919 and walk to the log cabin along the Derrylahane Trail.
2:15pm Talk by Duncan Stewart at the log cabin, followed by walk.
2:45pm Talk by Aengus Kennedy along the Derrylahane Trail.
3:30pm Tea, coffee, traybakes at a reserved area in the restaurant at the Visitor Centre
3:45pm – 4.45pm: Q&A facilitated by Janine of the Education Centre followed by group activity with 2 x 10 minute brainstorm of actions we can each take when it comes to biodiversity, green energy and achieving a circular economy.

ChangeMakers is pleased to present a QQI Level 5 in Intercultural Studies facilitated by Francine Blaché Breen and supported by the Donegal ETB Community Education Support Programme.
This dynamic course will equip you with the knowledge, skills and competence to explore, reflect and analyse intercultural issues. These could include issues such as diversity, racism, prejudice, conflict, inclusion, participation, equality and interdependence.
